Attorney Mitra Shahri Is Much More than “Oregon’s Funniest Lawyer”
Attorney Mitra Shahri grew up in Tehran with her mother, father, aunt, and 2 brothers. She came of age during the White Revolution in 1963, which was a time of relative progress for women in Iran, giving them the right to cast votes and hold elected offices. As a young girl, her aunt, an unmarried woman who lived with the family, encouraged her, saying “You can do anything you want.”
Mitra’s family moved to Wichita, Kansas when she was 17 years old. She and her siblings threw themselves into mastering the English language and, throughout her college and post-graduate education, Mitra was still learning English. However, she did not let her linguistic challenges limit the scope of her professional opportunities.
Mitra took her aunt’s advice to heart and pursued a degree in medical technology, specializing in tissue transplants. She eventually moved to Los Angeles to work in a research laboratory at the University of California, during which time she decided to attend a law class with a co-worker. Despite the fact that she was still learning English, Mitra fell in love with it and decided to take on a new challenge: law school. She earned her J.D. from the University of Utah in 1993 and was given a coveted spot among the Order of the Coif and a number of other impressive memberships and designations.
Founding of the Mitra Law Group
Mitra visited Oregon in 2001 and decided to relocate for the fresh air and change of scenery. She founded the Mitra Law Group in 2002 and poured her skill into handling employment law claims.
Over the years, she has won a number of impressively large settlements and verdicts in employment law cases and has earned quite the reputation in Oregon’s legal community. She has spoken at various Oregon Trial Lawyers Association events and participated in other Continuing Legal Education courses about settling cases and evaluating damages properly. In fact, she has been so successful that multiple companies have brought her in to educate their leaders and employees about acceptable workplace behaviors and the rights of workers.
And, of course, she has also been named Oregon’s Funniest Lawyer several times over.
